Privacy Policy

Brainero is a personal AI tutor (our tutor is called Lumi) for school children in Grades 1–12. We built Brainero child-first and privacy-first: we collect as little as possible, keep a child's work on their own device, and never sell data. This policy explains, in plain language, what we collect, why, and the choices you have.

1. Who sets up Brainero

Brainero is intended to be set up by a parent or guardian, who confirms consent before a child can use it. This reflects children's-privacy laws including the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act (DPDP Act). The parent area is protected by a PIN.

2. What we collect

• A child's first name or nickname (used to greet them).
• The grade, curriculum (CBSE, ICSE or IB) and subjects chosen — so lessons match the syllabus.
• A parent or guardian's email address — for consent and, if they choose, to sign in and back up the profile.

We do not ask for a child's surname, phone number, email address or home address.

3. Where information is stored

A child's chats, quiz history and any homework photos are stored on the device only — they are not uploaded to our servers. If a parent creates an account, the profile (name, grade, curriculum, subjects and learning progress — not chats or photos) is backed up to our secure cloud provider (Supabase) so it can follow the child across the app and website. You can turn this off by not creating an account.

4. What leaves the device (AI answers)

To answer a question, the question the child asks — and a homework photo if they send one — is sent to our AI provider (OpenAI) to generate a response. In Voice Mode, a short audio clip is sent so it can be transcribed and answered aloud. We instruct our provider not to use this content to train their models, and we do not attach a child's name to it.

5. Analytics

We use privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics (Vercel Web Analytics) that count only anonymous, aggregate events — for example, how many people start a lesson or finish a quiz. These are just numbers that help us improve Brainero. They never include a child's name, their work, their messages, or anything that identifies a person, and nothing is linked to an individual.

6. Cookies

We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. The app uses your device's local storage to remember the profile so it works offline and across sessions.

7. How information is shared

We do not sell personal information and we show no ads. We share data only with the service providers we need to run Brainero — our AI provider (to generate answers), our hosting and cloud-storage providers, and our email provider (to send the parent a verification code) — each only for that purpose and under their own privacy terms.

8. Keeping it, and deleting it

Everything on the device can be erased at any time from Profile → Settings → Reset App Data, which removes the profile, every chat and every photo from that device immediately. If you created an account and want the cloud profile deleted, email us (below) and we will delete it.

9. Children's privacy

Brainero is designed for children but operated with a parent's involvement. We collect the minimum needed, require parental consent, and do not use a child's data for behavioural advertising or profiling.

10. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you (or a parent on a child's behalf) may ask to access, correct or delete the information we hold, or withdraw consent. To make a request, contact us at the email below and we will respond.

11. Changes to this policy

If we update this policy, we will change the date above and, for significant changes, note it in the app.
